Web3 approach to gaming has been focused on token-gated, low-quality, play-to-earn type of games, catering to a very specific audience of crypto and NFT traders. Passive income has been the main purpose of these games instead of a fun-to-play experience first.
On the other hand, traditional mobile gaming has enjoyed a sustained growth over the last few decades, however, lack of ownership of in-game elements has been a common pain point among its players, and so is the contribution of their communities to the development and growth of the game ecosystem.
